As a Medical Technologist with more than 52 years practice in the Clinical Laboratories of major medical centers in Chicago, Ann Arbor and Phoenix, I was initially skeptical of the numerous testimonials written by consumers of the whole-fruit puree of mangosteen. These self-reports often involved only subjective observations. I wanted to see quantifiable results measured on standardized instruments utilized by professional medical personnel. However, when my business partner (Lynn Leonard) experienced some remarkable lessening of her MS-related symptoms, I decided there might, indeed, be something to mangosteen and its xanthones. I began drinking mangosteen juice myself.
Back in 2003 my physician, Dr. Milissa Cooper, had prescribed Fosamax to increase my bone density. Both Dr. Cooper and I were concerned that I not develop the severe osteoporosis that had made both of my parents’ lives miserable, especially my father who suffered multiple fractures. Sadly, I developed painful muscle spasms—a known side-effect of Fosamax--and Dr. Cooper recommended I discontinue its use. In September 2006 I had another bone density test at my physician’s office. At that time my bone density measured -2.4.
In October 2007 I again had my bone density checked on the same machine in my physician’s office. The same technician conducted the test. When I went in for my test results I saw that Dr. Milissa Cooper looked very happy as she looked at my chart. “Your bone density has improved from -2.4 to -1..6! What have you been doing?”
My reply was just as enthusiastic. “No changes other than I continue to take the original mangosteen juice—2 ounces, 3 times each day with my meals!” Dr. Cooper then instructed me to “stay on that juice!”
When I got home I used a calculator to compute the numerical extent of my bone density improvement. I was delighted to see a 33% value for my improvement—much greater than the percentages reported for most of the pharmaceutical products.
Having a safe, natural and effective alternative that spares me the agony my parents suffered from osteoporosis is truly a God send. And there are no side-effects!
